Some things to do to avoid identity theft!

As several as ten million Americans a year are victims of personal identity theft. In 2003 and 2004, the Identity Theft Resource Center surveyed victims of identity theft and reported the findings in a report called The Aftermath Study. These results are a good estimation of the effects of personal identity theft upon its victims and the types of identity theft crimes that are committed.

Here are some things to do to avoid identity theft!

-Have a locked mailbox?

-Shred documents with account or Social Security numbers on them?

-Are you familiar with scams and phising emails?

-Do you delete scam emails without enswering them?

-Do you have installed and updated regularly your computer security systems- firewalls, antivirus, spyware, Windows or Other Operating System updates. Ensure your Wireless Router is Secured?

-Do you shop online only on websites that are secure or that you know?

-Do not your Social Security Number with you all the time?

-Do not share your Social Security Number inless absolutely necessary

-Do not carry extra credit cards or your chequebook unless you need them that day.

-When in store or restaurant, always keep them in site when using them.

-Check your credit report on a regular basis

-Use a Fraud Alert system.
